The lines soften and fade away leaving younger, firmer looking skin.

The results of Botox are not permanent, so you will need to keep it up with regular treatments. Results usually last 3-6 months, but this can vary from person to person.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections commonly known as Botox® is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When injected the toxin blocks the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to cause the muscle to contract. Without these messages, the muscle remains in a resting state until the ‘messengers’ recover.

How long do results of anti-wrinkle injections last?

Duration of results varies from person to person depending on lifestyle and other factors which will be discussed at your consultation. The treatment can take up to two weeks to see the effect and on average results tend to last up to four months. Movement will begin recovery from eight weeks.

Is the procedure painful?

A slight momentary sting may be felt on injection otherwise the procedure is relatively painless.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

All treatments carry a degree of risk, anti wrinkle injections have been used for many years with no known adverse effects. However, to reduce the risk of complication, it is vital that you have anti-ageing injections in a safe and medical environment. At Medskin Clinic, anti-ageing injections are performed by a registered nurse.

What does a Botox® injection treatment involve?

Several tiny injections with a very fine needle are made around the areas to be treated. The injections are very shallow and are not painful – the most many clients feel is a slight stinging sensation. If you are concerned about the injections hurting, we can numb the area to be treated with either an ice-pack or anaesthetic cream.

The treatment takes 5 to 10 minutes and the results are visible after 3 to 5 days. Following treatment, you should avoid touching the treated area and strenuous exercise. You should also avoid drinking alcohol for 12 hours directly after treatment – you’ll just have to wait a bit before you go out and have a celebration drink! Follow up treatments are usually required to ‘top-up’ the initial treatment every 3 to 4 months for the first year after which the period between top-ups is usually longer.

Since then it has been more widely used to treat a variety of conditions from writer’s cramp to Parkinson’s disease. Cosmetic use of anti-wrinkle injections has been around for the last 20 years with hundreds of thousands of successful treatments being given every year. One full dose of an anti-wrinkle injection is now considered to be as safe as taking a quarter of an aspirin.
