Tear troughs

(eyebag removal)

Tear troughs are indentations which run from the nose and all around under the eye. These indentations get worse as we age – as a result of the sagging skin and the loss of facial fat underneath, giving the impression of tired, and darkened eyes. As the face ages this gives the appearance of lower eye indentations and dark circles.

In the past, it was thought that only surgery could improve the eye indentations and there were no effective treatments for the annoying dark circles under the eyes. We use a very careful multiple puncture technique, injecting the dermal filler deep just above the orbital bone.

We inject many times, depositing small amounts of filler and massaging them and moulding them carefully along the way. Like a patchwork, we slowly build up the filler and smooth the affected skin area. The tear trough treatment only takes around 20 minutes (after having a consultation) and the results are truly amazing.

This procedure rejuvenates the tired, ageing face like no other and the results can last up to 18 months before a top up is required. Prices for tear trough treatments can be found here.

Tear trough questions

How long does a tear trough procedure take?

The procedure takes around 20 minutes, with the results being seen instantly.

How long do the results last?

It varies from patient to patient but the results tend to last around 12 to 18 months, after which a top up will be required to maintain the results. After several top ups, the results can last for longer between top ups.

Are tear trough treatments safe?

The tear trough procedure uses a naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid, in the form of a filler gel which has been used worldwide for over 10 years in millions of treatments.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients experience a slight reddening and tenderness around the injection site which usually clears up after a couple of days. Bruising is quite often experienced as the area being treated under the eye is very vascular. There is no danger from this and the bruising can be covered up with make up.
