We are proud of our reputation for high-quality treatments and have the essential expertise needed within this demanding field of medical aesthetics.

Many of our clients have commented that microdermabrasion treatments have a fantastic effect on their skin, often likening the treatment to having a virtual facelift.

What is microdermabrasion facial?

Medical microdermabrasion treatments are minimally invasive and they work to tackle fine lines, age spots, sun damage and many other skin concerns. Microdermbarasion for acne is also highly effective. During a dermabrasion facial, fine crystals are used with a vacuum technique to remove dead skin cells, a technique that will not cause any changes or scarring to the skin and it is suitable for all skin types.

Although there is no requirement for anaesthetic of any form before a microderm facial, some practitioners do offer clients medication prior to treatment to help them relax.

What does microdermabrasion treatments involve?

As part of medical microdermabrasion, your therapist uses a device to direct tiny crystals across the surface of the skin that will loosen dead skin cells, these will then be vacuumed away. Dermabrasion facials are not at all painful, and one session will last an average of 30 minutes, although your therapist may recommend a cocktail of treatments for the most impressive results.

Microdermabrasion facials can cause some slight redness and possible swelling, and microdermabrasion for acne scars or active acne could be more invasive on the skin. However, the side effects and downtime for all dermabrasions treatments are generally minimal. Some patients find the vacuum suction causes temporary bruising to the skin, which can also be quite dry and flaky for the first couple of days after treatment.

Sloughing off these dead skin cells to reveal the new skin underneath can make you more sensitive to sunlight, so it’s a good idea to use sunscreen for the first few days following a microdermabrasion treatment.

What if I have problems after treatment?

It’s important to ensure your therapist is fully qualified to offer microdermabrasion facials, that’s why opting for the experienced nurses and nurse prescribers at MedSkin gives our clients such an advantage. If any of our clients have problems following treatments, we see them straight away and offer the expert medical advice needed to solve any issues.
